The Water Blueprint for the San Joaquin Valley added its collective voice to the effort to simplify and streamline the complicated and often onerous constellation of State of California regulation and permitting required on a range of water projects. The Water Blueprint was among 13 associations signed on to an October 9 letter to the California Assembly Select Committee on Permitting Reform, ahead of its October 16 meeting hearing. These 13 groups are not alone in recognition of the need for permitting reform or in reaching out to the Select Committee on Permitting Reform to offer information and guidance as they perform their review. Ellen Hanak, Senior Fellow with Public Policy Institute of California, testified before the Select Committee on October 16 and provided a compelling perspective on the impact permitting can have on local entities’ work to build drought resiliency in California.
